Visio uses vector graphics to create diagrams. It is currently available in three editions: Standard, Professional and Premium. The current version is Microsoft Office Visio 2010 for Windows. In late 2009, Microsoft released the beta version of Microsoft Visio 2010. Unlike the core Office 2007 applications, Microsoft Visio 2007 does not feature the Ribbon user interface. However, Microsoft Visio 2010 does. No version of Visio exists for the Mac OS X or Linux operating systems, although other diagramming programs exist for those systems. Due to proprietary Visio file format, no Mac OS X or Linux program can read Visio files (as of October 2010).

The Standard and Professional editions both share the same interface, but the latter has additional templates for more advanced diagrams and layouts as well as unique functionality that makes it easy for users to connect their diagrams to a number of data sources and display the information graphically. Microsoft acquired Visio Corporation in 2000.

Microsoft InfoPath is a relatively new addition to the MS Office suite that was first seen in Office 2003. The application can be used to both create and fill out XML-based electronic forms such as time sheets, status requests, and expense reports. This allows users a more efficient way to manage data. it fairly easy to design forms of all types, especially if you start out with one of the sample templates that come with the software. In addition to the templates that come packaged with InfoPath, several more can be downloaded free from Microsoft Office Online. it integrates particularly well with Outlook 2007. Forms designed with InfoPath can be sent as email messages through Outlook so that users can complete and return the forms as they would any other email. Once a form has been filled out, information from it can be exported to other applications such as Excel where the data can be organized and analyzed.

Because Microsoft Outlook used the same basic Windows Messaging profile, account and e-mail settings (MAPI), MS Exchange users not familiar with it could have been led into thinking that Outlook created a double profile and that it made copies of all their mail while they were just checking to see what the new MS Outlook (ver. 97) looked like. This way some MS Exchange users could have unknowingly deleted all their e-mail that they perceived to be 'double', as MS Outlook did not have any front-end feature to notify users that it was actually using the same MS Exchange / Windows Messaging account.

A management information system (MIS) is a system or process that provides information needed to manage organizations effectively. Management information systems are regarded to be a subset of the overall internal controls procedures in a business, which cover the application of people, documents, technologies, and procedures used by management accountants to solve business problems such as costing a product, service or a business-wide strategy. Management information systems are distinct from regular information systems in that they are used to analyze other information systems applied in operational activities in the organization. Academically, the term is commonly used to refer to the group of information management methods tied to the automation or support of human decision making, e.g. Decision Support Systems, Expert systems, and Executive information systems.
